My research spans macrofinance and international finance, with a current focus on exchange rates, capital flows, and the architecture of the international monetary system. More broadly, I am drawn to questions whose importance is clear but whose underlying mechanisms remain difficult to explain.
Research often feels to me like a solitary conversation with the unknown. I hear something of that in Mozart’s D minor Piano Concerto, K. 466: an undercurrent of unrest, with fleeting moments of clarity and calm. At times we live within a theme; at others, the theme lives through us.
